Making bread at home is a simple process that involves a few basic ingredients and equipment. Here is a step-by-step guide to making bread at home:
Ingredients:
- 3 cups of all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 2 teaspoons of active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon of sugar
- 1 1/2 cups of warm water
Equipment:
- Mixing bowl
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Wooden spoon
- Plastic wrap
- Baking sheet
- Oven
- Kitchen towel
Steps:
Combine the flour, salt, sugar, and yeast in a mixing bowl. Mix well to ensure that the ingredients are evenly distributed.
Add the warm water to the dry ingredients, stirring with a wooden spoon until a sticky dough forms.
Once the dough has come together, turn it out onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. If the dough feels too sticky, add a little more flour. If it feels too dry, add a little more water.
Place the dough back into the mixing bowl, cover it with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm, draft-free place for about an hour or until it has doubled in size.
After the dough has risen, punch it down to release any air bubbles. Turn it out onto a floured surface again and shape it into a round loaf.
Place the loaf onto a baking sheet, cover it with a kitchen towel, and let it rise again for another 30-45 minutes.
Preheat your oven to 425°F (218°C). Once the oven is preheated, remove the kitchen towel from the loaf and bake the bread for 30-35 minutes, or until it is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack for at least 15 minutes before slicing and serving.
